Installation overview: how a RAE system goes in

The sequence from site survey to handover, and which product handles what along the way.

Preliminary guidance. It describes current design intent; dimensions, clearances, and procedures will be confirmed in the installation manual that accompanies certification.

This guide describes the intended installation sequence for a RAE system. It reflects current design intent for RAE Charge, RAE Connect, and RAE Summit. Dimensions, clearances, torque values, and wiring diagrams will be published in the installation manual that accompanies UL 9540 certification.

Before you start

  • Site survey. Confirm the mounting location, service access, network options, and the path from the storage location to the electrical service.
  • Load review. Identify the loads the owner expects to carry during an outage and the inverter architecture the site will use.
  • Program eligibility. Note any utility program the owner may join. Summit is being built toward program participation, and the commissioning record should capture the program from day one.
  • Permits. Follow the local authority having jurisdiction for energy storage permitting and inspection.

The sequence

  1. Design. Select wall-mounted or stacked ground-mounted configuration for Charge based on the site and the inverter architecture. Confirm structural support for the unit weight (design specification under 400 lb per unit).
  2. Mount Charge. Set the unit with service access to the integrated disconnect and a clear view of the touchscreen. Allow the airflow clearances in the final manual; the unit uses active cooling.
  3. Electrical. Land conductors through the integrated disconnect and fusing, then complete the inverter and service interconnection per the inverter manufacturer and the AHJ.
  4. Install Connect. Place the gateway where it has reliable connectivity. Wired connections are preferred; wireless options are available where wiring is impractical.
  5. Commission in Summit. Register the system, confirm that pack telemetry is arriving, set operating priorities with the owner, and record the configuration.
  6. Handover. Walk the owner through the touchscreen, their Summit access, and what happens during an outage.
